Detention Officer/Jailer
This individual is trained on the job in order to become a Georgia Certified Detention Officer/Jailer. Incumbents must obtain state certificate from jailer’s school within six months and successfully complete field training through the Sheriff’s Office.

Detention Division
This is a direct supervision pretrial detention facility. The total capacity for the jail is 380 beds.

General Job Description
Under regular supervision, performs law enforcement work in enforcing the security of the Detention Division of the Sheriff’s Office. Work involves maintaining the security of the facility and safety of the inmates and staff; processing arrestees for housing and release; transporting inmates to and from court; serving papers to the general public when necessary; supervising inmate work details, outside recreation, visitation, and medical visits; serving meals; performing perimeter checks; and providing religious services. Employee works under stressful, high-risk conditions

Salary
$33,405.20 – $42,648.00 Annually – (Non-POST certified applicant)
$34,987.00 – $47,353.00 Annually – (POST certified applicant)

Minimum Requirements 
•Must be at least 18 years of age
•Must possess a High School Diploma or GED
•Must possess a valid driver’s license
•Must be a U.S. Citizen
•Honorable discharge if served in the military (if applicable)
•Must be able to work any shift, weekends, and holidays
•Must successfully complete a background investigation, polygraph exam, psychological exam, and medical screening

Physical Requirements
Tasks involve the ability to exert moderate, though not constant, physical effort. While performing law enforcement work, must be able to defend one’s self from assault and to restrain suspects of varying weights.
