Welcome to the Barrow County Sheriff's Office Training Unit!
The Training Unit consists of four full-time training officers, eleven POST-certified General Instructors, and seven POST-certified Firearms Instructors. Our General and Firearms Instructors serve in different capacities within the Sheriff's Office, instructing classes as needed and scheduled by the Training Office. We currently have one 25-seat classroom equipped with audio-visual presentation equipment and one multi-purpose classroom that can be set up for roundtable discussions, defensive tactics training, or judgmental use of deadly force scenarios. We offer a wide variety in-service training classes, as well as advanced classes through the Regional Georgia Police Academy Athens.
The Training Unit is responsible for scheduling, coordinating, and teaching in-service training for the Sheriff's Office. They also schedule Deputies for off-site training at regional police academies and the Georgia Public Safety Training Center, manage and operate the firing range, create and maintain lesson plans, and organize and teach community programs.
