The School Resource Officer (SRO) Unit is made up of one Lieutenant, two Sergeants, and sixteen (16) deputies with 24 total spots approved. They are responsible for 20 Public Schools and 1 private school. Their primary purpose is to protect the school community by preventing crime, responding to emergencies, and acting as a visible presence to deter threats. However, their role extends beyond safety enforcement—they are mentors, educators, and trusted adults who build meaningful relationships with students and staff.
SROs play a key role in building safer schools, nurturing stronger relationships between youth and law enforcement, and contributing to a positive learning environment where students can thrive.
With classroom presentations, one-on-one interactions, and involvement with student activities, they educate students and staff on topics like drug prevention, internet safety, and the consequences of risky behavior. SROs are expected to be approachable, which allows them to build trust, encourage open communication, and help guide students toward making better decisions. Their presence helps reduce response times during emergencies and enhances overall preparedness through training and collaboration with school staff.
